Sunday, Nov 5 - Rio Grande River Gorge West Rim Trail

This trail is 9 miles long - following the Rio Grande River Gorge to the old road to Santa Fe bridge (still passable) in Pilar, west of Taos.

Deborah and Gail wanted to hike the Italientte Trail on Taos Mountain today, but I needed to be out in the wide open, so I went to the West Rim Trail of the Rio Grande River Gorge. Below is the high desert vegetation of sage, sage, pinion (juniper) and more sage!

This is the Gorge Bridge, and if you follow this road, you travel west across northern New Mexico - this is the road we followed to get to Pagosa Springs, CO.

While living in the midwest offers the 4 seasons, and the Ohio River is beautiful, I'd forgotten just how magnificent and spectacular nature can be. How grateful and awe-inspired I am when I stand on the edge of this gorge (yes, the picture just below the bridge photo, with the outcrop rock in the foreground and the river below is the rock I'm standing on to take the photo) and look down.

This landscape is grand, and alive, and speaks to us. There really are not adequate words to describe what I see every day, so I hope the pictures do the job for me! And again, Taos Mountain below.
